Slimming world 12 week review- should I continue?

Slimming world 12 week review- should I continue?

So excluding holiday I have been doing slimming world for 12 weeks now and have finished my 12 week countdown that I paid upfront for.

How have the 12 weeks gone?

In total I have lost 5.5lbs, and if I’m honest I don’t think this weight loss has anything to do with slimming world but more to do with breastfeeding. That’s not me saying that slimming world doesn’t work, but that I know I haven’t really stuck to plan properly at all!

Especially on the cake front! I blame cake mostly! You may have seen from social media or other blog posts that I am pretty partial to a cake when out and about, and I find it virtually impossible to resist accompanying every latte with a slice of cake! I recognise this is a problem! Yes my name is Lisa and I am addicted to cake!

I actually lost 2.5lbs whilst on my 2 week holiday which was amazing and completely unexpected (I’m putting it down to the profuse sweating in 40degree heat with a baby permanently attached to my chest!) . This meant I finally gained my ½ stone loss reward, only to gain 2lbs the following week I was home. So annoying!

Should I continue with Slimming World?

I do still really want to lose weight but I’m just undecided if I should continue with slimming world or not. Partly due to the money it costs, although not expensive I am still on maternity leave pay so money is tight. It’s a lot of money, £5 a week, to effectively just get weighed and then go! I often don’t stay for group because Fridays are my only day I can usually get stuff done as Hayden is in nursery all day.

There is also a lot going on in life at the moment, with looking after both children, moving house, blogging, mike busy with work etc. And slimming world does take quite a bit of advanced meal planning etc I just don’t know if I have the time.

But I worry that if I stop going I will just give up completely and even though I’ve only been getting weighed in I think it keeps me thinking about it and trying. I know I could just continue to use the principals of slimming world and not go or do it online but I know me. I know if I opted for this that I just wouldn’t stick to it, I think I need that potential of embarrassment of facing the scales surrounded by others to force me to keep trying!

Another part of me says that Life is always busy, and very unlikely to get any less busy anytime soon so Why put it off or postpone going?

If I did continue…

I think if I do continue I need to have some clear goals set out for example that I want to have lost say 12lbs over the next 12 weeks. I need to be more organised with meals and use a food diary to keep track of what I’m actually eating!

Looking back to when I did slimming world after Hayden was born and lost over a stone in the same time frame, the difference then was that I was doing lots of walking. I would go out with Hayden and walk at least 1 hour a day. Whereas since Austin was born I barely do any walking or exercise except running around the house most days like a crazy person! Seemingly it doesn’t have the same effect!
Doing more exercise would also probably help, if I can fit it in. Might just have to be an extended walk back from the park here and there, but every little helps right?

It’s been good to write this post so I can collect my feelings about it but for now I’m still undecided whether to continue or not.
Would love to hear What you think? Any tips or hints for being more successful with slimming world? Or being more organised with the meals?

I don’t get the point of Slimming World. You’re basically paying someone to tell you things you already know deep down (and some of the advice they give is truly awful). Maybe put the £5 a week in a jar and when you hit a goal, use it to treat yourself instead
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes 🙂

Ooh I like the £5 in a jar idea and buying myself something nice. The problem for me is I think I need the accountability of going to SW and getting weighed and recorded to keep me trying to lose weight.

Like you, I need the accountability of someone weighing me each week to keep on track. I wish I didn’t, because £5 a time isn’t nice (especially on maternity pay)!
I would say with the meal planning, is that the more you do it the easier it gets. Because then you narrow down the meals that are cheap/quick/easy/everyone will eat and you just pick from those. At least that’s what I’ve found, and I’ve now been doing it for so long that it actually takes me longer on the weeks I haven’t planned because I have to dither in the supermarket!

Hi Sadie, great tips here. I’m definitely the same in the supermarket when I haven’t planned, I wander around aimlessly for ages!
